I remember two years ago when his brother Cottrell told me about him and asked if we could book him to open for our 80s v 90s party with FATLIP. I said yes without really knowing much about MC Imprint because Cottrell’s fam is my fam. I had no idea that Imprint was gonna blow my mind 2 years later at a live show in Long Beach and that’s exactly what happened last week.

 

Joe G. and I showed up at The Shore Ultra lounge in LB for Imprint’s album release party last week not really expecting to see a packed house by 10pm. And as soon as we walked in, we were greeted by Cottrell and his big bro Brett, and it looked like they had a little crew of groupies surrounding them. We knew this night was gonna be something special. Imprint absolutely killed it on the mic, David William Embree aka THE OPTIMIST aka the Birthday Boy destroyed it with LIVE beats all night (yes he was actually using a drum machine) and Marlon Fuentes kept the turntables hot with his DJ skills. …… Major thanks to STUDY footwear for sponsoring giveaways all night!  If you haven’t already got the album, go do it NOW!!

THE CRAMPS – I CAN’T HARDLY STAND IT (VIA RAMONE666)

Granted, some of you may call me a bandwagon fan or newb or whatever, but at least I can admit that as soon as I heard my first Murder City Devils song only a year ago I was hooked. After months of scouring the web, finding talks of secret shows here and there that never really happened. I was blown out of the water when I actually read on their myspace (yes I still go on myspace sometimes) that they were actually announcing tour dates and the reunion was going to happen! From then on I did all the research I could, downloading every song I could (yes I actually BOUGHT some albums too “In Name and Blood” and “Thelema”) just to prepare myself for their next show.

I arrived in Pomona with my partner in crime and the person who actually played me my first MCD song, with a bottle of whiskey and cameras in our hands in hopes of trying to capture what we knew was going to be nothing short of radness. As soon as we walked in, we met up with a few friends, held back our giddy screams, and grabbed an empty spot on the floor to prepare ourselves for a show we have been waiting over a year for.

They opened their set with “Bear Away” and although the vocals were a little low for the first half of their set, the show was a solid 90 minutes of rock and roll. Take your first blowjob, the first time you tried coke, and the first time you fired a gun combine them, and make them all last 90s minutes. Then you will have something that feels what it’s like to be at a Murder City Devils show. OK Ok Ok maybe I went a little overboard with that one so, Ill save the horrible metaphors and ostentatious adjectives for another post, andjust let the footage speak for itself.

 

As a bonus, I got their opening song “Bear Away” on film.

What we did get, was a little glimpse of what went down during the MUSIC LOVES FASHION party at the Riviera hotel. My friend / most awesome room mate Travis, handled the photo taking duties for the weekend and he did a good job leaving all the Persians out. Trust me, once you’ve seen ONE persian dude with his shirt off pumping his fist in the air yelling out “TIESTOOOOOOOO” at the top of his lungs, you’ve seen them all.

I’m not going to go through all the photos and comment on them like I normally do only because I really have no clue what’s going on in some of them. But I can tell you that on the very last photo, someone is literally in the process of getting pregnant in the pool.

 

At this point I’m just too tired of fighting it so here is some TIESTO magic to give you a glimpse of what 3 days in a desert hotel filled with 15,000 persians sounded like.
