MSTRKRFT in SD!!!

By Mykal • Nov 24th, 2007 • Category: ARTIST NEWS, PARTIES

So, This last Wednesday we had the great opportunity to head down to cover the MSTRKRFT show at 4th and B in San Diego…
Our homie Brett from FieldTrip entertainment got us in and scheduled some time for us to get some interviews in with some of the other DJ’s.

We ended up getting to San Diego rather early (around 5pm) and we decided to hit up the town… to see what it was all about.

We saw a pretty cool ice skating rink outside a couple blocks south of the venue

then we got bored of watching 15yr olds on dates trying to impress each other with their lack of skating skills… so we headed back to the venue…
When we got their Buddy Akai.. had just finished doing their soundcheck and the place was pretty much empty.

Some of the artists were still setting up the art wall for the show …and it already looked pretty dope.

As soon as things got underway…the Delicious Dj Duo BLKSWT opened up the show and dropped some serious heat to a growing crowd.

Then as soon as BLKSWT finished up…and got the crowd moving… Buddy Akai went on… these guys are seriously one of the best unkown bands i’ve ever heard…. (mix the sweet bass lines of Moving Units, add some of Faint inspired electro, and take a 80’s inspired vocals…and you have BUDDY AKAI) Now you would think a band with all these elements would suck live..but actually they are one of the best live bands I have seen in a long time… the vocals were spot on..and all the right elements would come along at the right time for each song… LOOK FOR THEIR INTERVIEW ON THE SITE SOON :)

Then it was time for the ONE and only SHARK ATTACK to kill it….. These guys seem to be the ONLY group in SD… consistently packing the houses and providing GREAT music to the scene out there. I am sure many of you may have heard their insane remix of THE REFUSED that even STeve Aoki uses to open up his sets..but if you haven’t ..click here….or you can check em out on MISSINGTOOF.com

PATRICK AND MIKE were killing it… for some reason Mike decided to go around giving everyone hugs in the middle of his set…

That was about the time when we saw the on and only WILL TEE YANG there taking his glorious photos…

After we said hi to Will… we went back stage to get a quick interview in with LAZARO CASANOVA before he had to go on….
This guy is hands down one of the nicest “big name” dj’s we have ever talked to… seriously guy was super dope…

after we got the interview all squared away (look for it when the site launches) we followed him on stage to catch his face melting hour long set.
LAZARO CASANOVA

Needless to say but the place was completely packed full when he went on…

As soon as he came on…MSTRKRFT finally showed up from their hotel and they ended up bringing some “Special” guests with them on stage.

LAZ’s set was seriously insane….the crowd was loving it..and everyone else in the place was in full party mode…

After he did a quick thank you to the crowd…

He passed the tables over the Jesse and Al from MSTRKRFT…
MSTRKRFT

AND THE PLACE WENT BONKERS!!!

Within about 20 mins into MSTRKRFT ’s set..some familiar faces from LA showed up
RON from the Cobra Snake and one half of the COSMIC KIDS doing his work…

The main man…MARK from the CobraSnake also doing what he does best …and looking fabulous while doing it ..ahah

Nothing says “IM AMERICAN AND I LIKE TO PARTY” like a statue of liberty denim jacket…

speaking of partying

Jesse and Al ended their show around 1:15 and people were still partying w/o any music…so they came back on with their remix of D.A.N.C.E. (CLICK IT) and as redundant and this may sound the entire place went MORE crazy…. People were bum rushing the stage, chicks were crowd surfing, bottles appeared out of nowhere…Ill let the photos speak for themselves….

Then Al and Jesse signed off…saluted the crowd and finally brought an end to the madness at around 1:45…

The show was seriously insanity and was really refreshing to see “the scene” was still alive in San Diego…
Brett from Fieldtrip really knows how to do a show right. Look for the interviews from this show to drop when our main page launches….
