ROYKSOPP… always cool

In this day and age…it seems that everyone knows some sort of “DJ” or electro group that claim they are the next big thing an they are going to change the sound of “ELECTRO” / Dance music but they always seem to fall short….
Well I felt it necessary today to “remind you” all of one of my favorite electric groups of all time
ROYKSOPP
Yeah I am sure many of you have already heard of them… but sometimes its good to get back into an old band/ group that actually has talent instead of constantly looking for the newest thing.
In case you need some refreshing check out the tracks

ROYKSOPP - WHAT ELSE IS THERE

ROYKSOPP - SO EASY

ROYKSOPP - REMIND ME
(caveman commercial)

Yeah they are good right? exactly… so maybe this will inspire you to go back into your archives and dig up some other dope tracks from the past… or not… either way they seem to be forgotten in this “scene”

HARD ….oohh yes!

I know that everyone is going to be posting up photos of how amazing their experience at HARD was and they will be writing how their photos are cooler than everyone elses… which is fine… but our photos kind of suck and are kind of funny and we have kind of good music… so keep reading to kill your day at work.

FIRST OFF!!! I can’t continue this blog post without thanking TIM PLUMLEY, DAN SENA, and WHITE LIGHT productions for taking care of us this year…. These guys literally went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of and we cannot thank them enough for doing that especially while such chaos was going on around them.
WE OWE YOU GUYS HUGE !!!

Mark , Dan Sena (Seh - na), and I rolled up to the Shrine auditorium around 915pm to make sure we would beat the rush to get in and to make sure we could get some good shots of MR. WHITE killing it. But unfortunately about 2000 other people felt that they would beat us there. And there was already lines on both sides of the complex. After we got everything straightened out and got in… We knew that night was going to be a good one……eh screw it… LONG STORY SHORT we had an amazing time… download the music …read the captions … go crazy…or dont either way it was fun!

Originally our own power duo …COLOSSAL KNXN was supposed to dj this event… but they pulled out at the last minute for their FRANKI CHAN party.
So back to the festivities….
We teamed up with the TWELVE AYEM dudes to bring santa ana another live art installation during the event…. IT was a super fun night filled with all kinds of music and everywhere you looked there was something going on… I usually dont like to write about how “Awesome” our parties are so Ill just let the photos do the talking… but why not get some free tunes while you are at it?

The 80s WERE THE SHIT

Mike’s an idiot.

The 80’s were the last major decade of influence, stylistically, for most of the music we hear today. Especially when you talk about hip-hop and electro, house, and any kind of dance music.

Leave it to Mike to find the most obscure fuck up 80s band to make a point.

Here are a few reasons why the 80s were some of the most dynamic years in music:

THIS WAS ONCE REAL

Yes, I have had numerous debates with Joe and Mark about how all the music coming out of the 80’s wasn’t good… and I think this song proves my point..

MODERN TALKING - CHERI CHERI LADY

Yes, the song SUCKS ASS… but the video… well I never thought I’d say this, but the video effing RULES!!!
SERIOUSLY !!!…..It’s like they took all the technology the SHARPER IMAGE (lame store) sold at its peak in the 80’s and put it all in one video.
And you have to love them for trying.

oh and by the way… the guitar player is my hero

BrickBREAKAH KILLA!!

Today, in typical summer fashion, I sat around and played Brickbreaker (anyone that has a Blackberry will know what Brickbreaker is and even if you don’t own a Blackberry you probably know what I’m talking about) The difference was today I made Brickbreaker my bitch. I was sick of hearing how Mykal’s high score was bigger than mine (side note: apparently Mykal is well known for big things, his Brickbreaker score being one of them, sadly, I don’t think I will ever be able to match his biggest asset, and I needed to be bigger than him in at least one way).

To start things, I laid in bed watching channel 4.1 News Raw to get me pumped up for the pain I was about in inflict on Brickbreaker. Before I knew it managed to get 11 lives and soon I was coming up on the 30th level. Once I got to the 33rd level (1 level before the final level) I kicked that level’s ass then called Mike to gloat and feel better. I then skipped the shower, hopped in my car, and went to Myke’s house to complete the 34th and final level in front of Myke. By this point I already beat his high score, but I reminded him repeatedly just so he would remember the day.

A couple thousand points later and 6 levels into the second round of 34 levels I finally lost all my lives. I blame the Housh, but I will not tell him this to his face because I owe him $40 from a lost bet when I had faith in the Lakers.

Below are the pictures I will frame of my victorious day:

Pat was so amazed by my score he tried to one up me by jumping on colorful inflatable things in a pool:

Mykal was soo amazed he tried to one up me by pointing to his stomach:

But neither Myke’s stomach or Pat’s jumping onto pool toys can take away from what I did today.

Today I am bigger, if only it is the score on Brickbreaker.

And now some tunes…

WHEN DID CONVERSE GET SO COOL?

Converse has teamed up with a slew of music heavyweights to celebrate the its 100th year anniversary.

Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D)enlisted the help of Santogold and Julian Casablancas (The Strokes) to create a song that embodies the spirit of Converse and gets people dancing. The track is upbeat, fun, and makes for a great summer jam. And guess what? It can be downloaded for free on Converse’s site right now.

The artists came together and made an accompanying music video for their song too. It was directed by Psyop’s Marie Hyon and Marco Spier and features a 3-D black-and-white paper-doll theme. Enjoy.

BEHIND THE TIMES

Yes yes I know everyone who reads this is going to think Im some sort of movie NOOB who has no real taste for great american cinema… but I dont care.. this movie just changed my life!
I just saw AMERICAN PSYCHO for the first time yesterday… and its REALLY GOOD!! … I mean REALLY… even if you take away every part of the movie and just play the soundtrack… you still have something thats better than 90% of the junk that’s out there (cough cough NORBIT cough THE STRANGERS) anywho… I figured Id share with you one of my most favorite scenes..

THE SONG?
HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS - ITS HIP TO BE SQUARE

DONT WORRY!!!
Im not going through some serial killer obsession part of my life right now… I just find that scene wonderful on MANY levels…
first… it seems that in this day and age it literally is VERY hip to be square
second… jared leto is getting axed! (and by a music critic…oh man the irony alone is amazing)
third… the choice of set design mixed with CHRISTIAN BALES’ acting makes that scene genius
