DR. MARTENS 50TH ANNIVERSARY MUSIC CAMPAIGN

By Mykal • Mar 24th, 2010 • Category: BLOG, FEATURES, MUSIC

WHY is everyone buying Doc Martens all of a sudden? Oh wait I forgot, it’s because they are fucking awesome that’s why!

April 1st 2010 will mark the 50th Anniversary of the Dr. Marten air cushioned sole and to celebrate they are putting together an equally awesome music campaign behind it. The first boot was the 8-eye 1460, named after the date it went into production (01/04/60).

Taken from the 50.drmartens.com website:

For five decades Dr. Martens boots have been worn by workers, for whom they were designed, but also by rebels and non-conformists of all stripes.

The boots were first adopted by the skinheads and then by a succession of other sub-cultures, including musicians for their authentic, working class appeal.

To celebrate our 50th Anniversary we have asked ten bands/musicians to record their version of cult classics that represent the spirit of Dr. Martens over the past five decades.

We are also working with ten directors, who will be making music videos for each of the new tracks.

The first three will be released on 1st April 2010. They include:

Noisettes covering Ever Fallen In Love With Someone You Shouldn’t’ve?
Originally by the Buzzcocks
Video directed by Chris and Rankin

Dam-Funk covering The Things Dreams are Made of
Originally by Human League
Video directed by Ace Norton

The Duke Spirit covering If The Kids are United
Originally by Sham 69
Video by Jamie Morgan
