ANDY WARHOL SELLS 8 ELVISES FOR 100 MILLION
By Mykal • Dec 1st, 2009 • Category: BLOG, DESIGN, FEATURESOne month after Andy Warhol’s 200 One Dollar Bills sells for $43.8 million at auction, Warhol sells his Eight Elvises painting for $100 million. The only other artists who have sold pieces at this price are Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Willem De Kooning and Gustav Klimt.

Warhol continues to be as relevant as he’s ever been. This particular painting merges the most popular aspects of Andy Warhol and his fascinations. The subject is Elvis Presley, one of the most famous American icons. It demonstrates the repetition of imagery. The painting is done silver, his favorite color, it is from 1963, a vintage Warhol year, AND its an original piece. Unlike the artist’s other screen prints, which were run off, sometimes in hundreds of editions, he only made one of the work he called Eight Elvises.
