GOOGLE WAVE INVITES/MINI-SCAVENGER HUNT

By Joseph • Nov 11th, 2009 • Category: FEATURES

Alright so I was able to score some Google Wave invites.  And I want to give them away!

For any of you non-geeks out there; Google Wave is Google’s next attempt at trying to change the way we communicate with each other online. Think of it as a Chatroom, E-mail, Forum, Twitter, Facebook (Minus the profile crap), and Collaboration tool all in one.

Even though that sounds overwhelming. Once they work out the kinks it should be pretty amazing. (Note: I pretty much love everything Google. I’ve worked with computers for a long time, and just like Apple, Google is all about the user experience and making it easier to access your information anywhere, which makes my job easier. However, there is a good chance Google will one day take over the world and replace all humans with robots which have our memories based on all the information they have been gathering on us over the years. This may or may not be a bad thing. There are rumors that once they take over the world they will digitize the Earth in its entirety then destroy it and make a new planet like the Death Star. They will call this planet… “The Googleopolis”. It will be all white, with some blue, and there will be advertisements everywhere.)

I have 15 invites for Google Wave, but we are not just giving them away. Because that’s lame, and then the title of the post wouldn’t have included “scavenger hunt”.

There are two ways to win an invite.

The first is to tell me why each of the following images is related to Google Wave:

album
band
movie

The first image should be obvious, but they get harder as you go along. For this part only the first commenter to correctly point out the relevance of all the photos will get an invite.

I’ll even give you a suggested answer: In the first photo, they are waving. Obviously this is related to Google Wave because they are waving.

That would be an acceptable answer, now you would have to provide me with answers for the three other photos. Leave your replies in the comments, only the first person to get them all right will get an invite.

The second way to win has two parts:

First, you must find a misspelled word (capitalization and intentionally misspelled words excluded) in any of our posts, repost the misspelled word in a comment in this post with a link to the post so we can verify (if your answer is a duplicate of another commenter’s answer you will not be given credit).

Second, you must leave us one suggestion for the site. This could be anything from “change the colors or the layout (but be specific)” to “i would like to see an interview with (insert artist name here).” You could also suggest something you might want to see covered, some event, a certain topic. Only serious suggestions will be considered to get an invite.

We will be giving away 1 invite to each of the first 14 people who finish this second part (minus the people who give us retarded responses or suggestions).

So there you go. If you have any questions let me know. I’ll be happy to answer them.

HAPPY HUNTING! oh and don’t forget to follow fakeRICH on Twitter. We are working on getting more invites and will announce them via Tweet.

  1. [...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Mykal fakeRICH and Ben Murphy, ROLLHYPE.com. ROLLHYPE.com said: GOOGLE WAVE INVITES/MINI-SCAVENGER HUNT http://ff.im/-biKHf [...]

  2. I would love to see a news ticker at the top of the site that showed me short comments on the latest news in the industry or what is new on the website. If you put it just above the menu its accessible and since its just a ticker tape type it would not take up a lot of space.

  3. 1. The people are waving. This is related to google wave because, as you mention above, the people are waving.
    2. The pictured Pixies album Doolittle has a song called “Wave of Mutilation”. This is related to google wave because the word “Wave” appears in the title.
    3. The band in the picture is the Cars, who were a “New Wave” band. This is related to google wave because the music genre includes the word wave.
    4. The image is from the movie “A BOUT DE SOUFFLE” which was described as being part of the “New Wave” genre of movies. This is related to google wave becasue the movie genre includes the word wave.

  4. That was pretty quick. Thanks for playing. Did you know all those answers or did you use the magic of the internet?

Either way, the invitation is on the way!

  5. Chris, thanks for the suggestions but you also needed to find a misspelled word in one of our other posts. There are tons, trust me.

I had to read about 15 articles before I found one — you guys spel gud.

Suggestion? Hmm. How about some kind of cloud keyword tag on the home page with respect to your featured stories of the week?

  7. mujadaddy it’s been sent.

  8. “…electro with some of the funnyest sound clips around”

    Funniest!!

I love the layout of the individual categories, but when they’re all listed on the homepage it’s way too cluttered. All of the images pop-out at once, and it’s hard to focus on just one category or story.

  9. Matt the invite was sent. Thanks for the suggestion

  10. Hi Joseph,

Thanks very much for the invite, I’m very eager to check Wave out.

I knew one answer, one was given as example, and I did a little research (yes, google) on the other two. I was stumped on the last one until I started digging for keywords around old movies, black and white movies and the logo on the girl’s t-shirt. That got me the name of the movie, then I searched on its name and “wave” and I was all set.

Great contest, I never really enter them but this prize was too tempting to pass on!

    Thanks again,
    Brian
