FORMULA D: BURNT RUBBER AND TAN LINES
By Mykal • Oct 20th, 2009 • Category: DESIGN, FEATURESUsually my Saturdays are filled with fast food and hours spent on Phils couch playing fat princess but this past Saturday I actually got out of the house and baked in the sun at Irwindale speedway and I loved every minute of it. We are obviously more than just a little nuts about cars over here at fakeRICH so when I heard from John P. (fatlace) that we could come out the the FORMULA D finals in Irwindale and shoot I immediately jumped for joy. Yes it was hot as shit and yes we all have amazing white trash tan lines from the weekend but YES it was so worth it.
Formula D has come a very long way over the past 5 years and I don’t see it slowing down anytime soon. I remember when I was in the car game 5 years ago everyone said that drifting would be dead in two years but with video games and large corporate backing the sport seems to be getting bigger and bigger. Not only does drifting seem to be smashing through mainstream doors in the U.S. but the sport itself is becomming more competitive, teams are swapping out 4 bangers for good old american V8’s and some teams even run v10s. I know there is “no replacement for displacement” but watching a 240sx with a corvette motor in it race around the track next to a Corolla with a 1.3 liter 4banger almost seems like they are cheating a bit. I think that next year there should be different motor classes. I know that its each drivers responsibility to make the best of his platform but I hope you get my point.
Enough of the drifting rant….
We really didnt get a chance to stay till the end because Panini and Ugly Arm were melting in the stands all day but from what I saw, it looked like an amazing night.
Look for a video documenting the days events from PrettyboyPaul very soon.
Thanks again John!
